It’s inevitable to see and feel the effects of decreased sales when running any kind of business. Not knowing why you see your sales decreasing or how to stop them from dropping more can be frustrating and leave you with more questions than you started with. Before you panic and sound the alarm, try following some of these strategies to help you see how your product is performing.
One of the most important things to look at when trying to figure out why your sales are decreasing is to look at how your product listing is performing in comparison to your competition and the overall market. An easy way to do this is by checking the BSR, or Best Seller Rank on your products.
The BSR is an ever-changing number that measures the velocity of your sales compared to other products in your category and sub-category. For example, if you have a high BSR it means that your product listing isn’t selling as quickly as your competition. It is the same vice versus; if your BSR is lower than your competitors that means you are selling your product faster than those around you. It’s important to note that the best way to compare your product listing to others is by looking at your direct competitors rather than your entire category.
Another way to make use of the BSR is by using the BSR history charts feature on the Helium 10 Chrome Extension. The BSR history charts allow you to look at the BSR of your product and other products over a period of time to show fluctuations. For example, you could look at a 7-day period and compare how your listing scored compared to the listings you are competing with. Instead of manually tracking how the BSR fluctuates day to day, you can set a time period and visualize how you performed in your market. Using a source like this makes it easier to see if your product is selling faster or slower than the products you’re competing with.
Now, the BSR history charts on the Chrome Extension are much easier to use than tracking BSRs manually every day, but there is an even better way to source this kind of data.
Market Tracker by Helium 10 is the ultimate tool for tracking your share of the market and comparing your product listings to your competitors. With Market Tracker you can create markets by taking your top 5 most relevant keywords and adding your direct competitors to Market Tracker. Something you can’t do in any of the other strategies before is tracking your market size as a whole. With this, you are also able to then see how much of that market your product owns. Think of it as your slice of the pie.
Using these strategies can help you see where your product is at in your market. Any product will have its highs and lows, but it is important to use the information you have before diving off the deep end. Looking at your sales alone isn’t always going to be the best indicator of where you stand among your competitors. With these tools and strategies, you can look at multiple views of where you stand to properly asses why you might feel your sales are down.
To learn more about any of these strategies or how to bring this information to your audience, reach out to your affiliate manager. They are always here to help you and your platform! The biggest thing for any affiliate whether you've been doing this for a long time or just getting started is consistency. In this day and age, not only is content key but also the quality of the content. Just like anything you've done well, dedicate time blocks each week to thinking of what content you want to post, and then time block to actually creating that blog or that video.
FOCUS on one thing at a time and don't try doing too many things at once. So, if you're really set on getting your first few conversions, focus on getting enough content out there until you've done so before doing the other thousand other things you want to do.
Fortunately, you can work with your dedicated affiliate growth manager or affiliate manager for ideas on content. Helium 10 provides a ton of variety of ways an affiliate can leverage the resources here to create high-quality content. From video ideas with talking points, you'll want to hit on, to taking advantage of time-limited offers, to having our trainers come and speak to your audience LIVE. If you're not chatting to your account manager about ways to grow then you're definitely missing out.
